Here's what I sent Darelam: something handmade, something vintage, something South African, something fun and something for letter-writing.
The 'something handmade' was a little Diana brooch with a detachable flash, which I made specially for Darelam.
The 'something South African' and 'something fun' packages consisted of a notebook, card and fridge magnets, all of which I picked up at Mr Price.
The 'something for letter-writing' kit came in a little box and contained postcards, small blank cards, stickers, a pencil and some rubber stamps I made from erasers (I hope they actually work properly - I didn't test them as I didn't want to stain them with ink before Darelam got them!)
The postcards I also made myself, with pictures from a vintage Afrikaans children's book I bought ages ago and didn't know what to do with until now. It's called Vakansie op die Plaas (Vacation on the Farm) and tells of the rather tame adventures of two siblings on their cousins' farm. I had to use normal cardboard to make sure it fit through my printer, which means that the cards turned up a bit at the top of bottom. Not too big a problem, but I would have preferred them to be more like proper postcards.
